Effective Vaccine Management
Effective Vaccine Management (EVM) is a global initiative to increase immunization coverage through the continuous improvement of vaccine supply chains, ensuring potent, life-saving vaccines are available to vaccinate populations through the life course when and where they’re needed.

An ongoing cycle of improvement
The EVM process is a journey of continuous improvement, from assessment to analysis to interventions and back again, ensuring supply chains are responsive and resilient as conditions change. There are four steps to the EVM Continuous Improvement Plan (cIP) approach: assess, plan, implement and monitor. These repeat in a cycle of continuous learning and innovation.

Over the years, as the technology, systems and demands behind supply chains have changed, EVM has adapted its approach and tools to ensure that assessments can be comprehensive, representative and equitable.
EVM1, 2009
Launched as a questionnaire that has been used to assess and improve supply chains in more than 80 countries.
EVM2, 2019
Builds on the original assessment tool with expanded capabilities and resources. Improvements provide vital information at a subnational as well as national level, enabling countries to assess, analyze and innovate with greater agility and precision.

In addition to assessing facility operations (E1-9 in EVM1), EVM also assesses facility management and national programme management, and performance can now be interpreted in terms of the Availability, Quality and Efficiency (AQE) of the supply chain.

Results analysis and reporting are provided in sophisticated online dashboards that allow for comprehensive interrogation of iSC performance in real-time.
Country ownership.
Insights from EVM are no longer restricted to a national EVM assessment. Assessments can be customized to meet a country’s specific needs, and can be targeted in different ways:
- Range - National or Subnational: determines whether to include locations from the entire country or only specific administrative units (AUs) in the random site selection.
- Type - Random or Targeted: determines whether to use random site selection or else pick individual locations.
- Sample - Single or Multiple: Determines whether to make a single random site selection for the entire country or make individual ones for each AU.
- Scope - All or Partial: determines whether to assess all EVM requirements or only a subset.
